Why I Love WiredTree Hosting

Alert! WiredTree Was Bought

In an ironic twist of fate, WiredTree was bought out by LiquidWeb in November 2016. All WiredTree customers will be migrated to LiquidWeb servers as a result. After hearing this, I can no longer recommend WiredTree since LiquidWeb doesn’t upgrade VPS customers every few years. Instead, I recommend Knownhost.

All my critical sites use WiredTree as a host. I’ve been with them for a few years. Before then, I was with LiquidWeb. LiquidWeb was pretty good, but I left. Why? Keep reading…

It all started with a post by Justin Dupre. He mentioned how his VPS server was being upgraded for free. At the point I read his article, I had already been with LiquidWeb for a few years and never received an upgrade. So I shot an email to LiquidWeb support asking if they could upgrade my VPS as a long-standing customer.  I also mentioned WiredTree’s numerous upgrades.

LiquidWeb said “Nope“.

So I moved to WiredTree and I’ve been very happy since. In the time I’ve been with them, my VPS server has been upgraded three or four times. For free. In fact, this is the second time this year I’ve been upgraded. For free.

That’s why I love WiredTree. Oh and the support and responsiveness is incredible as well.

Here’s the email I just received from them today:

WiredTree 2013 VPS Level Up — More server resources, same great price!

Dear Valued WiredTree Customer,

Recently we contacted you about our Disk I/O Level Up for all current customers that added the power of SSD caching to your server. The results of that upgrade have been great. All of our VPS and Hybrid customers are seeing faster page loads without losing any disk space or paying more for pure SSD disk space. Since that went so well, figured we might as well Level Up your other resources free of charge too!

We are pleased to announce new VPS plans! We have made major investments over the last year upgrading our VPS infrastructure, retrofitting existing servers, and introducing new servers to support these increased allocations. Our goal is to ensure you are getting the best value for your money.

Here is how the plans are changing:

* VPS1000 is now being “Leveled Up” to the VPS1500 which comes with 1536MB RAM, 100GB RAID-10 Disk Space, and 4000GB Transfer.
* VPS1200 is now being “Leveled Up” to the VPS2000 which comes with 2048MB RAM, 120GB RAID-10 Disk Space, and 6000GB Transfer.
* VPS1500 is now being “Leveled Up” to the VPS2500 which comes with 2560MB RAM, 150GB RAID-10 Disk Space, and 8000GB Transfer.

All of these upgrades are free of charge to existing clients!

We will be performing these upgrades for all existing VPS clients over the next few weeks. We have already done the maintenance required for these Level Ups, so they will happen without any downtime on your server. You will receive a personalized email when your server has been upgraded letting you know your new resources amounts. The email will be going to the primary contact that you have set in Grove. Your VPS is already in the queue to be updated, you don’t need to do anything except wait for the email!

Thank you for your business and for choosing WiredTree!

No…thank you, WiredTree.

If you’re not receiving emails like this, maybe it’s time to rethink the host you’re using. Migrating from WHM to WHM is extremely easy and there’s a team at WiredTree that will help along the way.

About Jesus Perez

  1. These guys rock the house! And Jesus, you’re always spot on as usual. Why HG keeps popping up I’ll never know?

  2. I used WT for a few years and found them to be a very good host. In the end I left them for Knownhost b/c their support was a bit rigid and it led them to make some bad assumptions. It’s funny that now Wiredtree (which was founded by and ex-Liquidweb dir) has been bought out by Liquidweb.

    • Jesus Perez says:

THANK YOU for bringing this to my attention, Nnyan. I’ve migrated my larger sites to Knownhost and I’m very happy. They also have an upgrade policy for VPS customers.

  3. I’ve been using Wiredtree since 2011 for my servers and never had a problem. Since Liquidweb acquired Wiredtree, the list of issues and problems was endless. The support was terrible. The only thing I want is to setup my servers on a new hosting and forget about this nightmare called LiquidWeb.
